I woke up from a nap to find out that the ban on assault weapons has been denied forward movement. One of Obama’s goals, to ban assault weapons, was put in motion by producing a bill that would ban over one hundred of the most popular weapons owned by American citizens.
It is surprising because the bill was not opposed by Republicans, but by Obama’s own party; five democrats from pro-gun states that mainly oppose the bill in its current form, but not entirely.
Here are some quotes from those five courageous men and women (and their representatives).
“The answer isn’t simply in limiting guns.”
I am “not interested.”
“I don’t believe we need to pile on new laws and suddenly that solves all the problems.”
“A stand-alone ban will not go anywhere.” (paraphrased)
Those are not all of the quotes from them and there are many more from other politicians and Americans. It is important to realize though that there is no ‘one size fits all’, which is what these new laws hope to accomplish.
The truth of the matter is that murders are not the result of weapons, but individuals. There have been murders and wars since the beginning of the time.

I personally do not see why this is taking so long, and takes an incident to get it brought up in government. Something needs to be done about this, as really it has always been a issue.
In some capacity, gun control will happen. It may not be in the way Obama would like it, but because many key players are up for election soon, they will be much more careful in their voting. Americans need change.
