There isn’t a person in the world, who has watched the news in the past 45 days and hasn’t heard either about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting or the new Gun Law, the Obama’s administration is trying to pass. This tragic incident in Connecticut, which took the lives of 28 people, made us reconsider our values and our children’s safety.
Soon after the massacre in Connecticut, Obama announced his intentions to reduce the public access to guns. There were many debates in the Senate and outside, because his Gun Law was going to override the Constitution of America, which is doubtlessly one of the greatest human inventions.

It was surprising to read that there are Democrats, who are against that law. On January 26, 2013, 5 Democrats from pro-gun states opposed the bill in its current form, but not entirely.

Yesterday, the White House released a picture of Barack Obama shooting with rifle. They explained that, he is doing it to show the people he doesn’t feel animosity towards guns. The photo was taken on August 4, 2012 but was published only yesterday.
When I saw the picture, I was shocked. Who could have advised him to release it? To me it looks like a really bad moment to publish a photo like this. Barack Obama is in the middle of his Gun Law campaign, which will probably mark his whole 2nd mandate.
An essential quality of a leader is to be able to put himself on the place of the families of the victims. Barack Obama has probably done that and that’s why he wants to restrict the public access to guns. On the other hand, the White House published a photo of him shooting. How do these families feel now after what happened to their children and they saw their President with a rifle only 52 days after the massacre in Connecticut.
Personally, I think there must be a major change in the way normal people can get get to real guns in the USA. The process must be tightened but the eventual change mustn’t override the Constitution. That’s what makes the USA a factor on the international scene.

Hello Everyone,
I think that even though he is currently doing the Gun Law campaign, he still was in the right with posting this photo. I do agree that guns should defiantly get more hard to purchase, i think that they need to do better background checks and other things so that not just anyone can buy a gun. Although, even if someone that seems totally perfect can own a gun can go south and end up using it too hurt people unfortunately. I don’t think that setting extra rules on guns will necessarily help our gun problem because there will always problems with people when owning a gun. People don’t think straight then they go out and do something stupid with there gun’s, it’s the way life is unfortunately. Anyways, that’s kinda my view on the situation and i do hope something gets done soon
Thanks,

Thank you for commenting Jimmy,
Definitely there must be a change but it mustn’t override the Constitution nor provoke the families of the victims.
Harutyun.
Agree with you guys here. I know compromise is needed but it shouldn’t hurt our constitution. It must be within our rights to bear arms, but with all of the violence going on, something has to be done.
While it does seem rather inappropriate to publish this photo so close to The Sandy Hook Massacres, I see no reason why he can not shoot a gun for recreation reasons. At no point in that picture is he mocking the deaths by shooting to cause death of anything. I don’t see how this picture could be found offensive to be honest. Had President Obama been shooting an animal, then clearly we have a different story.
Well, the way this was reported over in the UK, I thought this was just a release to appease the pro-gun people who I know made a lot of a noise about this proposed change. Either way, I look at it in the fact that America has presumably had guns floating around its system for a while now and even if there is a change in the way people get access to ‘new’ guns, how would you solve the millions already out there?
I’m sure in more rural areas you could simply set-up a little deal and purchase all the stuff you want, without checks on your background and whatnot, that’s what I think. I do agree that change has to occur in America, maybe that is just due to the way the UK gun laws are but there have been far too many attacks as of late in the US from my perspective. Change is needed, but also some sort of measures to ensure more guns are, if you like, taken out of the system that is being put in. I wouldn’t put it past some people to have stock rooms full of guns, what do you about them? No system is perfect, but you can hone it to get the best result. I personally hope for change but Americans do have the right to bear arms, I just think more thought is personally needed. Or you can copy the UK, whatever suits
